Hairstyle inspiration: These were the most beautiful celebrity looks in 2022

From Florence Pugh to Nyong'o, these star looks were our favourites in 2022 and that's why we'll be recreating them next year.
Please excuse the bad pun, but it's been a hairy year for celebs. After the pandemic meant some red carpet events couldn't take place and so we got less hairstyle inspiration, the celebs really went all out hair-wise in 2022. We're talking dramatic colour changes, extremely intricate sculptural styling and lots of casual undone looks. Vogue reviews the most beautiful celebrity looks of the year.
These were the 11 most beautiful hair stylings on the red carpets in 2022
1. Florence Pugh
After cutting her hair at the end of 2021, Florence Pugh experimented with different ways to wear a shorter hairstyle this year. Working with her favourite stylist Peter Lux, she wore her hair sometimes slicked back, sometimes rough, with a swept fringe and with a deep side parting - just to name a few examples. One of our favourite looks was her "Miss Flo" moment at the "Don't Worry Darling" premiere in Venice (see above).
2. Jodie Turner-Smith
Is there any hair colour Jodie Turner-Smith can't wear? In 2022, the actress wore every colourful shade imaginable at one time or another: from lime green to lilac and white blonde to bright pink - let no one say that buzzcuts aren't versatile.
3. Lily James
Once a loyal brunette, Lily James turned it all upside down this year. Not only did she transform into Pamela Anderson for her role in the mini-series "Pam & Tommy", but she also experimented with different shades of brunette, caramel blonde, copper and even a blunt-cut black bob. Proof that she can wear anything? Her updo with bow (created by hairstylist Halley Brisker) at the Fashion Awards.
4. Kristen Stewart
No one does grunge hair better than Kristen Stewart, whose tousled hairstyles always make for a refreshing sight on the red carpet. Working with her long-time hairstylist Adir Abergel, Stewart experimented with wild ponytails and mullets this year - and always looked good doing it. The wet look she sported at the Indie Spirit Awards is proof of that.
5. Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita Nyong'o has worn some sculptural hairstyles of the highest order this year: her topknots, twists, locs and braids were all worthy of beauty gold this year. A highlight was her loc crown at the Wakanda Forever premiere in London - a look created by her long-time hairstylist Vernon François.
6. Zoë Kravitz
There are only a few people in this world who look good with micro-bangs - Zoë Kravitz is one of them. With her short fringes, she wears her hair shiny and straight, perfectly setting off her striking facial features. The flawless hairdo she wore to the Oscars in March is proof of that.
7. Kaia Gerber
She is known for her medium-length model cut, but at the Met Gala in May, Kaia Gerber went all out on the hair front. With ultra-long curly extensions, she proved that she can also wear "big hair".
8. Daisy Edgar-Jones
We all love fringes - and one of the biggest British proponents of the style is Daisy Edgar-Jones. She proves how versatile a good fringe can be as she wears her fringes in all sorts of ways. Since working with top stylist George Northwood, she has been the proud wearer of a more straightforward cut. True to her understated girl-next-door aesthetic, the styling is unfussy but super chic.
9. Simone Ashley
It's been a big year for Simone Ashley. Not only did she shine on our screens in the second season of Bridgerton, but also on her first cover of British Vogue. And Ashley proved she can go one better when it comes to hair - as well as curls and wet-look finishes, she showcased hair with a mirror shine.
10. Zendaya
When it comes to her hairstyling, Zendaya has always been very experimental, and this year was no different. One of our favourite looks was her updo with a black hair band at the Emmy Awards in September. Perfect Hollywood hair.
11. Tracee Ellis Ross
From her big and luscious afro to mega long braids, Tracee never goes wrong when it comes to hairstyles. We especially love the braids by hair stylist Marcia Hamilton.
