Jenna Ortega: “Wednesday” actress receives a shitstorm on Twitter

Jenna Ortega talks in an interview about the terrible working conditions on the set of "Wednesday" - and is not taken seriously on Twitter for it. Why this is problematic.
In an interview with Netflix on February 9, 2023, "Wednesday" actress Jenna Ortega talks about the intense filming for the Netflix series. Not only was filming in Romania extremely packed, but in addition she took cello lessons and learned fencing. The actress reveals that she hardly slept, regularly pulled out her hair and cried hysterically several times when her father called her on Facetime. Now, however, Jenna Ortega is getting shitstorm for these statements.
Here's what Jenna Ortega has to say about filming "Wednesday"
So that she could portray her character in "Wednesday" as authentically as possible, Jenna Ortega learned German, fencing, canoeing, playing the cello - and dancing, of course - among other things. "I had to show up on set two hours early, work 12 to 14 hours a day, then go home and be taught about Zoom. Or I'd arrive at my apartment and my:e cello teacher:in would be waiting for me," the actress reports.
"I was just constantly on the move. If I had time on the weekend, if we weren't shooting on the sixth day of the week, I had to take lessons that day, too."
The cello lessons, in particular, were exhausting for her. Before filming began began, she was already working on her skills. But the piece "Paint it Black," which she was to play in the series, was actually written for two cellos. Now, however, she had to perform this piece with only one cello. She put herself under incredible pressure because she wanted an authentic performance of the cello piece - even when director Tim Burton assured her that it would look good.
Jenna Ortega considers herself to be a very perfectionist and really wanted to play as many scenes as possible as Wednesday herself. Towards the end of filming, however, time was running out. Her days got even longer, but then at some points a hand double had to be used for the cello.
"I was very concerned about being as prepared as possible because I wanted them to be able to use me. Of course, that's much more believable when you can see the face."
This is how the internet reacts to Jenna Ortega and her experiences on the set of "Wednesday"
Jenna Ortega is hardly on social media herself - and in this case, that's a good thing. Shortly after Jenna Ortega's statements were shared on Twitter on February 12, a shitstorm developed. The general tenet of people on Twitter was, "Stop whining from your ivory tower," in a wide variety of ways. Some talked about their own experiences in more conventional jobs, and that they don't complain about 12-to-14-hour days either. Others gave Jenna Ortega the - not-so-friendly - hint that she should quit acting if she can't take it. But most often we hear that this is just part of being an actor:in and earning enough money for it.
We won't list the tweets individually, but one:e user:in on Twitter has collected messages of the shitstorm in his:her post. He:her writes about it,
"Jenna Ortega talks about her feelings and experiences during the shooting, and everyone takes her chance to belittle her feelings. No wonder she's not on social media, so many of you are just annoying."
